Trash & Recycling Instructions

Updated: 2021/08/30

Empty and rinse out containers before recycling. Any type of plastic bags, wraps (clean or dirty), bubble wrap, etc. are not recyclable and should go to general trash. Even the plastic bags you use to carry the recyclable materials should not be placed in the recycle bins.

FAQ: How do I dispose of:

Batteries and fluorescent light bulbs (tubes)?

Put used batteries in the battery bin in the main office. Light bulbs and tubes should be taken to the maintenance office.

Small appliances such as a toaster or microwave?

Take small appliances to the maintenance shed where the blue truck is parked. For larger appliances like a freezer, contact Horace or Carol for disposal.

Liquid materials such as paint or cooking oil?

The liquid should be placed in a ziplock bag and thrown in the general trash. Clean out and recycle the containers.

Items with mixed materials?

Place in the recycling bin that matches the majority material. For example, a glass bottle with a plastic top should go in the glass bin. Something like an electric razor can be recycled but the battery should first be removed.

Large furniture?

Large junk furniture removal service is expensive, but Morrison will plan to call for service twice a year as needed, once in December and once in June. Furniture can be placed at the South Tower trash area during the months of December and May/June only, in order to avoid a big pile the rest of the year. A message will be sent to staff a week in advance of when the removal service is scheduled to come. North Tower residents will need to take their items to the South Tower area.

FOOD SCRAPS

If you could feed your pet pig with it, it goes in the blue compost barrels.

These do NOT go in the blue barrels: egg shells, any fruit peels, leaves, or large seeds or pits (like avocado pits), corn husks, etc.

Do not toss plastic bags into the blue barrels.
