In Touch (February 2017): Positive Press

Bio Guest Speaker

On Jan 17th, Dr. PJ Chueh, mother of Claire (9). Ally (11), and Lilly (Class of 2014)Su, came and spoke to the AP Biology class about the techniques she uses with her research team to identify specific genes which affect cancer cell growth. The AP Biology class has been studying this but the opportunity to learn firsthand from an expert brought the material to life. Especially interesting was that one special strain of cancer cells, used in our guest speaker’s research, was the focus of part of the AP students lab reports from two months ago. Bringing in guest speakers is a great way to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences around the world and right here in Taiwan.

If you would like to share about your field or know of possible guest speakers, please let the HS office know.

Chinese New Year

We had our Chinese New Year celebration. We were blessed to have a group of Chinese experts on Folk arts come and teach our students. Our high school Mandarin classes had fun making Rooster dough figurine for the upcoming year of Rooster, tasting yummy steamed Scholar Pastry with peanuts and sesame fillings as well as watching the Master Lee making Dragon Beard Candy and Sugar Painting.

Bio Guest Speaker

Claire (9).
