|Phonics/Grammar||We will begin the week reviewing our phonograms and the rules for changing a singular noun to a plural noun. We will also do a spelling analysis using our new phonograms.|
|Reading Workshop||We will continue our nonfiction unit by practicing ways to share new learning with partners, responding to new learning, and making sure we are picking good-fit nonfiction books. At the end of the week, we will begin our exploration of text features and how they help our comprehension.|
|Writing Workshop||Students will examine the parts of a letter. Using the writing process and the strategies of an opinion paragraph, students will write a persuasive letter.|
|Math||Welcome back from Double Ten Break. This week, 2nd graders will be learning strategies to help them fluenty add numbers within 20. These strategies will included “counting on,” doubles plus 1 and ten partners. If you get a chance, ask your student about the techniques.
|Social Studies||We will finish the first part of our geography unit with an assessment over the location of the equator, prime meridian, hemispheres, continents, and oceans.|

Spirit Week October 15 (Monday) through October 19 (Friday) will be our first ever EMS Spirit Week. Each day will be a special dress up day with a short pep rally to support our middle school soccer teams.
