Bible |

Phonics/Grammar | In the area of grammar, we will begin a three week journey into the world of plurals. Students will learn and practice the different rules for turning a singular noun into a plural noun. Students will also doing a spelling analysis based in the phonograms and spelling rules introduced last week. |
Reading Workshop | We have begun our nonfiction unit. This week, students will learn that reading and thinking about non-fiction is different than reading fiction. To start, good readers read the title of their nonfiction book and then think about what they already know about the topic.Students will practice recording their thinking and how to share it with others. |
Writing Workshop | Students will choose one of their opinion paragraphs to self-assess. From this assessment, they will decide if they need further revising and editing to prepare the text for publishing. Their published paragraph will be assessed for benchmark W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.

Math | This week, second grade is finishing our unit on comparing and ordering numbers. For the next three weeks, we will be looking at adding and subtracting without regrouping.

Social Studies | Students will be able to name and locate the seven continents and 5 major oceans. |

Tidbits | Star Student of the Week: Clive
No School There will no be school for students this Friday! Teachers from all three Morrison campuses will be gathering to attend professional development workshops and activities. Have a great first day of Fall Break.
Author Visit Last week an order form went home for parents to order a book from author Ying Compestine who is coming on Monday, November 12. The order form and money is due back to the library on Tuesday, October 2.
