|Phonics/Grammar||Students will take their end-of-the-year spelling assessment.|
|Reading Workshop||Students will continue with our poetry unit. They will use visualization to help deepen their comprehension when reading a poem. Each student will also work on memorizing a poem that they will share with the class on Friday.|
|Writing Workshop||Students will use the literary tools of writing poetry to compose poems of their own.|
|Math||Wow!! Only two weeks left of the school year! Time has flown by fast. It has been a joy to watch your children grow throughout the year. This week in math, we will finish graphs, reassess on our Money Unit and take a look at arrays.
|Science||We will continue exploring the fast changes that occur to the earth’s surface.|
|Chapel||Please join us for a K5 chapel at 8:10 Thursday morning in the auditorium.|
|Tidbits||Class Party The second graders will celebrate our year together with a Pool and Pizza Party Thursday, May 30. To help cover the cost of the lifeguards and food, please send in 130 NT in an envelope with your child’s name on the front. Thank you!
Field trip permission slips are due this Wednesday. Our trip to the 921 Earthquake Museum will be May 29.. If you would like to come along and chaperone, indicate on your child’s permission slip.
Asres For the past thirteen years, the K5 classrooms have financially and prayerfully supported Asres, a student from the impoverished country of Ethiopia. Our donations help pay for food, health screening, and school fees for her. Each month, one MCA elementary class prays for Asres, as well as raise support. May is the month for the second graders. This week, we will talk about Asres: why she needs our help, and how we can raise money to send to Compassion to help Asres and her family. This is a great time to teach our students to have empathy for those less fortunate than themselves.
