|Phonics/Grammar||The phonograms from Lesson 10 will be introduced: ou, ow, and ough. Students will spend extra time examining phonograms with multiple sounds.|
|Reading Workshop||Using a fiction book from their book bin, students will explain the story elements of the text. Students will also use context clues and their schema (background knowledge) to infer what their characters have learned.|
|Writing Workshop||We will finish our word choice unit with similes. Students will begin prewriting their imaginative narratives. This will include deciding on the main character, the setting, the problem, and solution.|
|Math||This week, we will continue working on adding and subtracting using a number line and working with place value. Towards the end of the week, we will begin our unit on Measurements. If you have an opportunity, I would love to meet with parents on Friday for Parent Teacher Conferences.
|Science||Students will continue their Plant Adventures by determining the answer to this question- Do plants eat dirt?|
|Chapel||There will not be chapel this week for all K5 students. The elementary students have been invited to the first showing of the middle school play Miss Nelson Is Missing.|
|Tidbits||Star Student: Finley
Field Trip Students brought home the permission slip for our April 10 field trip Friday afternoon. If it did not make it to you, I have extras! Read the information, fill out the permission slip, and return it with the admission fee. If you plan on accompanying us, make sure you are up to date with the Child Protection Safety protocols. These must be updated every year and only take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Parents who have not completed the video will not be permitted to accompany the class. Stop by the office and see either Mrs. Sawatzky or Mrs. Edwards.
Parent Teacher Conferences Parent Teacher Conferences will be Friday, March 22. Please call or contact the office to set up a time. On that day, there will not be classes for EMS students. The high school will still be in session, so the playground and other common areas will be closed to EMS students.
