Remember, there is no school this Friday. I look forward to meeting with you at your scheduled conference time. Please remember to call the office as soon as possible if you need to request a different time. Thanks!
Tomorrow (Tuesday) is our bake sale! Students should bring their baked goodies to school with them first thing in the morning.
Happy Birthday …
…to Felicia! She is turning eleven on Thursday!
Here’s what we’ll be Learning This Week:
Bible – We will be discussing Achan and the consequences that came from trying to hide his sin (lesson 9).
Our memory verse for the week is I John 1:8-9, which says, If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Reading and Writing – This week students will continue to work on writing 2-voice poetry, inspired by Esperanza Rising. This Wednesday, October 24th, we will have a poetry recital. Parents are welcome to attend! If you’d like to come and hear your child present his/her poem, please meet at 9:55 a.m. in the 5th grade classroom.
Spelling – Green Group: Sort 3
Blue Group: Sort 6
Yellow Group: Sort 13
Math – We’ve just started chapter 4: Divide by a Two-Digit Divisor. This week we’ll learn to adjust quotients when they aren’t quite right, divide with greater numbers, and kill monsters. Yes, monsters! Ask your child how that relates to math after Thursday!
Science – We’re done learning about physical science. We’ll be starting our life science unit with a fun activity.
Social Studies – We’re beginning chapter 5: The American Revolution. Students will practice the skill of summarizing as they work on overviews of the chapter.
