Lines from Mrs. Lima 10-1-2018

A Tissue Issue

Our class supply of tissues is nearly gone. Usually at the beginning of a school year I ask students to each bring in a few boxes of tissues to last us through the year, but this time we had enough left over from last year that I didn’t. However, we are nearly out. Could you please have your child bring in 3 boxes of tissues by this Thursday? That should be enough to tide us over until June. Thank you!

Author Visit

Ying Compestine is coming to visit Morrison in November. Students have already taken home an order form where they can order copies of her books if they would like. Anyone who wants to order her books needs to bring back the form with their money by tomorrow, October 2nd.

Short Week

Remember, there is no school Friday (or next week)! Enjoy your Fall Break!

Happy Birthday …

…to Ansel! He turns eleven this Thursday.

Here’s what we’ll be Learning This Week:

Bible – We’re continuing to learn about the Israelites’ journey through the desert to the Promised Land. Our memory verse for the week is Romans 6:23, which says, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reading and Writing – We’ll learn what themes are and how to identify them in a novel as we continue to read Esperanza Rising.

Math – Students will learn how to deal with quotients with zeroes and use models to interpret the remainder in division problems.

Science – Students will design and carry out an activity to prove the conservation of matter. They’ll also learn about chemical changes.

Social Studies – We’re continuing to learn about daily life in the colonies, including the reality of slavery. We’ll start on the topic of the French and Indian War.

Spelling – We are starting something new this week! The students have been placed in three groups (named after colors: blue, yellow, and green). Each group will be working on a different list, all of which can be found on the website www.spellingcity.com/limaa. Please ask your child which group he or she is in so you can remind him or her to study from the correct list.

The lists for this week are as follows:

Blue Group: Sort 1

Yellow Group: Sort 11

Green Group: Sort 1
