|Bible||Books of the Bible: Malachi
Students will need to recite out loud all the books of the Old Testament by the end of this week. We will practice this at school, but they should also be practicing at home.
|Phonics/Grammar||Our Lesson 7 spelling analysis assessment will be on Tuesday. The list was sent home last Thursday.|
|Reading Workshop||We can tell a lot about the characters in our books by taking a close look at their relationships with other characters.|
|Writing Workshop||We will continue writing small moment personal narratives. Our focus will be on the trait of ideas. Students will revise their stories to add bold beginnings, transition words, and excellent endings.|
|Math||This week, we will finish our unit on time. Students are working on telling time using words like “quarter past 3” for the time 3:15 and “quarter to 4” for the time 3:45. Students should also be familiar with terms like “half past” and “o’clock.”
|Science||Students will observe the properties of different materials. From these observations, students will determine which job each material is best suited for.|

|Tidbits||Happy Chinese New Year The Chinese teachers will be conducting special activities all week to help prepare students for Chinese New Year. Please check out the schedule because some days require special attire:
Monday: Chinese calligraphy painting and water coloring (Wear old clothing)
Tuesday: Same as Monday
Wednesday: Chinese New Year Craft
Thursday: Same as Wednesday
Friday: Wear traditional Chinese clothing or the color red. Singing and “asking” for Hong Bao.
Half Day Friday, February 1, will be a half-day. Dismissal will be at noon. Students whose parents are not here at that time will be asked to wait in the office. We will be following an afternoon schedule, so second graders will have PE and library.
