Faith Hero: Even though Daniel was separated from his family, he chose to continue obeying what he had been taught. God gave him wisdom as he stood for the Word of God.
|Phonics/Grammar||Lesson 8 will be introduced this week. The phonograms igh and wh will be introduced. Students will also explore unstressed R-controlled phonograms.|
|Reading Workshop||Second graders will continue using clues from the text, plus their schema (background knowledge) to make inferences about the characters in the texts they are reading. Authors give us clues by telling us what the character is doing, feeling, and saying. This is a skill that is important for good readers to use, especially as texts become more complex and intricate.|
|Writing Workshop||Students will continue using the trait of organization to improve their personal narratives. This week, we will finish our review of bold beginnings, and move onto transition words.|
|Math||Welcome back! My prayer is that you had a relaxing time with family and friends. This week, I will be gone on Tuesday to work on the Math Task Force. Susan Barbon will be the substitute teacher for me. Mrs. Dingus will be subbing for me on Thursday and Friday while I am gone with the 7th Grade Class on their final Culture Trip.
This week, students will complete our unit on “Telling Time.” In this unit, students should be able to tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5 minutes using a.m. and p.m. (2.MD.7)
Our next unit will be fractions. For this unit, students should be able to divide shapes into equal shares and use the words “halves”, “thirds”, and “fourths” to describe the shares. (2.G.3)
|Science||The students’ shelter models will be put to the test Tuesday to see if the materials they chose had the right properties to survive rain and wind. We will also begin working on our next benchmark: I can demonstrate to prove that an object made of a small set of pieces can be taken apart and made into another object.|
|Chapel||Please join us for a K2 chapel Thursday morning at 8:10 in the basement commons. Miss Neff will be sharing.|
