|Bible||Each student will receive a Bible to use at school. We will
spend some time looking at how the Bible is organized into
books, chapters, and verses. This year’s theme and verse will
also be introduced.
Theme: All In
|Phonics/Grammar||Students will complete a spelling assessment this week to determine their level at the beginning of second grade. We will also be reviewing phonograms learned last year.|
|Reading Workshop||Reading will be taught through the workshop format. The lesson will begin with direct instruction introducing a new strategy or skill. Students will then practice the new learning during an independent reading period. Small groups and individual conferences will reinforce the lesson. At the end, students will have a chance to share their new learning with a classmate.|
|Writing Workshop||Our writing time will be similar to reading workshop. After learning the routines, the writing process will be introduced.|
|Math||Mrs. Sheppard will be teaching math. She is a talented teacher with a wide range of experience helping children navigate through the world of math. Students learn through the use of hands-on materials and experiences.
|Social Studies||Students will explore and inquire as to what makes someone a good citizen.|
|Chapel||Please join us Thursday morning at 8:10 in the auditorium as the EMS students and staff celebrate the first chapel of the 2018/2019 school year.|
Welcome to 2nd Grade It’s going to be a great year! This is my 7th year teaching second grade at Morrison and it just keeps getting better and better! I look forward meeting all of you over the next couple weeks.
Pencil Boxes Students should not bring any pencils or pencil boxes from home. Morrison provides the supplies your child needs in order to succeed at school. In the past, I have found pencil boxes cause unnecessary distractions and interruptions to the learning environment.
Tissues However, our supply of tissues is low. If you would like to donate a package or box of tissues, it would be greatly appreciated.
Snacks Healthy snacks are great. Unhealthy ones are not! Help your child maximize their learning power by sending a healthy snack for their morning recess. Whole grains, vegetables, and fresh fruit are all great choices. Candy, cookies, and chips are not.
Monday- PE and music
Wednesday- PE and music
Friday- PE and library
Students need to be dressed appropriately to participate in PE, especially footwear. Flip flops and backless shoes hinder your child’s ability to run, jump, and exercise safely. Tennis shoes or sneakers will allow them to participate fully. Swimming will not begin until next week.
