|Phonics/Grammar||On Monday, students will be introduced to a spelling analysis list. Throughout the week, students will look at the spelling patterns. Students will also write the plural form of the nouns from this list.|
|Reading Workshop||This week, students will pick “goof-fit” books from the library using the Ipick method: I- I choose my book; p- the book fits my purpose; i- the book interests me; c- I comprehend the message; and finally, k- I know most of the words. Research has shown that students who choose their own books to read become better readers. We will also discuss how to write a thinking note, how to have a conversation with a partner about a book, and retelling.|
|Writing Workshop||We will finish our first writing using the writing method. Students prewrote, drafted, and revised an alliteration sentence last week. This week they will complete the process with editing and publishing. The second graders will then apply the writing process to an opinion paragraph.|
|Math||The second week of school brought our MAP Testing. With that completed, we will continue working on Skip Counting and Odd/Even Numbers. I look forward to meeting parents this Friday night at the Meet the Teacher Night.|
|Social Studies||Students will explore how they can be good citizens.|

Birthday Book Club Would you like to honor your child on his/her birthday and help the library program as well? How? You can donate 500 NT (this cost reflects the average price of new hardback books) and a special name plate with your child’s photo, name, and current grade level will be placed in the front of a new library book to commemorate it as your child’s birthday book. Bring 500 NT to the library on Meet The Teacher Night, August 31st at 6:30pm and choose a birthday book for your child. The last day for Birthday Book Selection will be Friday, September 7th. We will present the birthday book selection during library class and he/she will be the first to check out the new book. Other students, for as long as the book remains in the library, will be able to see his/her name and photo in the book after your child has read the book and returned it to the library.
If you would like to participate please come to the library during Meet The Teacher Night or the following week to choose your special book. If you have any questions, please let us kn
Swimming Swimming continues this week. In a bag, have your child bring a towel, swimming goggles, and slip on shoes. This will need to be brought everyday except Tuesday. Students only have five minutes to change before transitioning to their Chinese class. Please help your child pick clothes that they can quickly change back into quickly and independently after swimming. Students who are consistently late to their Chinese class will need to exit the pool earlier in order to have more time. Please be advised that swimming is part of the PE benchmarks. If there is a medical reason your child can not swim, please communicate with Mr. Peleo (firstname.lastname@example.org). I do not have the authority to excuse a child from swimming or any other PE activities.
