|Phonics/Grammar||Students will complete the spelling analysis for Lesson 11.|
|Reading Workshop||Good readers ask questions before, during, and after reading a text. These questions help lead the reader to a deeper level of understanding. Second graders will practice this strategy this week.|
|Writing Workshop||Our exploration of the writing trait of voice will continue with a strategy called “Show, Don’t Tell”. In this strategy, writers show what their characters are feeling instead of telling the reader. Students will practice writing sentences that demonstrate a feeling. Students will then incorporate this strategy into their imaginative narratives.|
|Math||This week for math we will continue to explore U.S. currency. In addition, students will be investigating how Taiwan Currency (NT) compares to the United States currency. Thursday, we will practice using Taiwan currency in the classroom, then on Friday, we will take a short walk to 7-11 to practice using Taiwan currency. Students will have the opportunity to practice by purchasing a morning snack for recess. A letter with further explanation will be sent home along with a permission slip.|
|Science||Students began a new unit called Work of Water last week. Students discovered that rivers flow from high points to low points. This week they will discover the answer to why there is sand at beaches.|
|Chapel||There will not be a chapel for K2 students this week.|

Swimming starts on Monday, April 29. Please make sure your child has their swimsuit, goggles, and towel every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Students should also bring a pair of sandals to wear after swimming.
MAP Testing will begin the second week of May. This will measure the academic growth of your child since the beginning of the school year. If at all possible, do not schedule a doctor or dental appointment during this time period. A more detailed schedule of the tests will be sent home next week. Students do not need to study for this test. However, adequate sleep, along with proper nutrition, will allow your child’s best ability to be put forth.
