Since this is my last month of addressing you through these weekly principal letters, I’d like to (for old time sake) reflect on some special memories during my time at Morrison. I apologize in advance for the nostalgia, but hope you can appreciate the closure.
Inevitably, my mind goes back to December 2003 when I came for a job interview at the old System Services office. I was already on island with my family teaching English and had just learned that Morrison Academy was hiring. My interlocutors were Mr. Hawthorne (acting Superintendent), Mr. Robinson (campus principal) and Mr. McDonald (K8 principal). All I remember from that interview was their relentless (or so it felt at the time) emphasis on pedagogy, instructional strategies and teaching methodology. I could tell that they were fully committed to providing a quality education to students and were looking for teachers who could live up to their high standards. The experience impressed me to no end and caused a desire in me to want to join Morrison’s educational enterprise. I especially looked forward to work with someone of Mr. Robinson’s stature. Little did I know that I would eventually serve as his fellow administrator and that he would become my good friend. It was such a privilege to eventually follow in his footsteps as campus administrator. Being among quality individuals and rubbing shoulders with them is one of the great unspoken benefits of being at Morrison.
On a side note, my friends still chuckle at me in disbelief when they learn that I’ve never set foot on US soil. Morrison Academy therefore has been my American frontier. The school piqued my curiosity and inspired me, but more about that next week. What an incredible journey this has been for us as a family. You’re forever in our hearts.
Hawthorne（當時的總校長）、Mr.
Mr. Myburgh 敬上
