September 16-20 EMS THINK Week 中小學THINK週

We would like to invite all parents to join this Friday evening, August 30 at 7pm for our annual EMS Meet the Teacher Night (MTTN). MTTN is a time when our teachers get the chance to briefly introduce themselves to parents and set the stage for a thriving partnership for the rest of the school year.
K5 students will be giving ‘student-led tours’ to their parents for part of the evening, so please bring your children with you. Childcare will be provided for younger siblings or for K5 children whose parents are also attending Middle-School presentations. We encourage you to come at 6:30pm for the Library Birthday Book Club.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer as teacher assistants, library aides, field trip chaperones, coaches for after school sports programs, and in many other valuable support roles. The students, teachers, and principal sincerely appreciate the time and effort volunteers invest in our school. In order to comply with the Child Safety Protection Network (CSPN) standards, all volunteers and coaches must participate in online training and get a criminal background check in order to serve. This is to protect all students on campus. We have arranged two sessions for CSPN training on Friday during Meet the Teacher Night. One session will be from 6:30-7:00pm in the office conference room. The second session will be from 8:30-9:00pm, also in the office conference room.

The Creation Station (makerspace in the library) has opened for the 2019-2020 school year! Our hours of operation are as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday = 3:30-4:15pm
Tuesday = CLOSED
Many hours have been spent this summer decluttering, organizing, and making supplies more visible and accessible. Our operation format has changed slightly this year. Most weeks we will have a project of the week that will allow students to learn something new. Occasionally we may have a free form design week or special project. We hope to have a calendar of events posted in the near future so students know what activities to expect in the coming weeks. The 2nd week of school we worked with heat sensitive shrink plastic and made keychains, necklaces, and other cool trinkets. This week we have been working with Little Bits and Squishy Circuits learning how to make basic electrical circuits with battery packs, motors, LED lights, switches, resistors, and piezo speakers. Some weeks your children may be bringing home a small craft they have created, and other weeks they will just be learning new skills and bringing home knowledge. We encourage everyone to try out the project of the week, but we also have a dedicated building area with a Lego wall, and several other types of construction type blocks.

While we are excited about the upcoming activities, we still need help from parents. Parents are ALWAYS welcome in the Creation Station anytime we are open! We encourage you to come in and learn what your children are learning and share in their excitement. We also want to extend the opportunity for parents to help lead learning sessions in the coming year where you can teach us about a craft/skill. Some examples are jewelry making, origami, sewing, knitting, calligraphy, drawing, painting, sculpting, stamping, scrapbooking, candle making, etc. We will be sending out a survey to parents in the near future to see if you would be willing to lead or assist a session.

Supplies: We are grateful for those of you who continue to feed our “Maker Monster” (deposit supply donations in the monster’s mouth just inside the library) – We have received many useful donations over the past year! As of now we have an abundance of plastic bottle caps and are well stocked, so you can just recycle for now. Examples of other needed supplies are: glue (any type), paints, brushes, origami paper, tape, chenile stems (pipe cleaners), straws, chop sticks, small nails, screws, wood, etc. Just about any type of crafting supply is usable and much appreciated!

Please contact Mr. Basnett at or stop by the Creation Station after school if you have any questions.

Thanks so much for supporting the Creation Station!
