Chapel Worship Team

Chapel is a time when students get together to make music to praise God. But most people don’t know the effort and time that some students put into this. All the student put a lot of effort in their practice. They work on vocals, instruments, but most of all they learn to work together to praise God.

A couple weeks ago, we went into the room to take pictures, each one of them was practicing very hard, correcting their broken notes, tuning their instruments, and just preparing their hearts for chapel. I emailed Ms. Miller some questions and here are the answers:

1) How do you feel when you are singing praise to God? (Excited, Joyful, Thankful, Happy, etc.)

I often feel very thankful and joyful to God as I think about the words of the songs and the truths that are in them.

2) Do you think God is talking to you through the songs?

Yes, I think He uses the Biblical truths in the songs to remind us of His unconditional love for us, and His presence in our lives as believers.

3) Do you think that through you, God is working on other people’s hearts?

Yes, because He uses us to demonstrate and proclaim His salvation and love to others. There are MANY verses in the Bible that talk about how He works through us to reach others with His gospel message (examples: Isaiah 43:10; Matthew 5:14-16; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 2:10 and many many more!).

4) Do you think that you bring a smile to God’s face when you sing Him praise? How does it make you feel?

Yes, because it says in Psalm 149:4 that “…the LORD delights in His people…” and in Psalm 22:3 it says that He is “enthroned on the praises of Israel..” loosely meaning that when He is praised by His people it is pleasurable for Him and He is exalted and glorified by it. Thinking about that makes me feel like “wow, this is what I was made to do!” I was created to worship Him (Isaiah 43:7)!

5) Is it hard preparing for chapel? Do you get nervous?

It definitely takes hard work, but it’s fun at the same time! I get nervous more for the students because it takes a lot of courage to get up in front of your peers and lead them in worship to God. Also, because worship is more than just singing. When leading worship, it is not to be taken lightly. It is serious business! To lead people into God’s presence and sing praises to Him…WOW! In the Old Testament, when the priests would lead the people in the sacrifices and worship on certain holy days in the temple, they had to follow very specific customs and rituals. If they didn’t do what God told them to do, they were killed instantly! Thankfully, He doesn’t necessarily do something like that today (although He could if He wanted to!), but we are still commanded to enter God’s presence with humble, thankful, and reverent hearts and minds….recognizing that HE is God, HE ALONE is worthy of praise and admiration and giving ourselves for Him to use, etc. If we don’t, then we may miss out on really connecting with God during that time of singing worship.

I also interviewed Keegan (G8), here are her responses:

1) What made you want to join Chapel Worship Team?

I think it would be fun to worship with my friends. I also enjoy singing.

2) How do you feel when you are singing praise to God? (Excited, Joyful, Thankful, Happy, etc.)

When I sing praise to God I feel happy and like nothing else matters except him

3) Do you think God is talking to you through the songs?

I think so because some of the songs lyrics are really emotional and I enjoy just saying those words to God.

4) Do you think that through you, God is working on other people’s hearts? Explain.

Sometimes yes because people enjoy singing and listening to others sing. That way you can reach out to others by singing.

5) Do you think that you bring a smile to God’s face when you sing Him praise? How does it make you feel?

I think I can. It makes me feel special and that someone actually cares for me. God is always there and watching over you no matter what happens.

6) Is it hard preparing for chapel? Do you get nervous?

I think it’s really easy for me to sing in front of others because it’s something that I really enjoy. I feel happy and excited when I sing for others, especially praise songs.

All of these students work hard on Chapel Worship Team, and their outcome is great! Last Thursday I went to watch them and take some pictures of them performing…. It was awesome. The whole crowd was singing, with smiles on their faces. Imagine how good the singers felt, after they got on stage and their stage fright left them. If it was me, I probably couldn’t stop smiling the whole day! And adding to that, probably some of the singers were the kind of people that get lost in the music and just sing their hearts out. It brings a smile to my face when I think about it, and it makes me proud that I go to this school and have a wonderful Chapel Worship Team that sings wonderful praise to God.
